NA2:  A Web Service Framework for Heterogeneous Data Center Management
Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Speaker:
Suresh Raju, Member Technical Staff, Sun Microsystems, Inc.

System administrators managing data centers have an enormous job in hand when they need to provide push-based periodic reports vis-a-vis a preferred on-demand role and context based view of the infrastructure.

To solve the above use case, a data center management application can make use of web services to expose critical information on demand to different parts of the enterprise. This presentation tries to address how web-services can be used effectively to achieve interoperability across heterogeneous platforms.

Employee portals essentially allow employees to define custom portlets on their home-pages to show a set of specific hosts, its patch levels and its applications status. Feed readers and custom Java applications can also be configured to subscribe to the same information. An application instantiates the proposed web-service framework and configures the parts of the application that needs to be exposed as a service.
