NST1:  Benefits of Networked Storage: NAS Data Protection
Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 10:15 am - 11:15 am

Speaker:
Paul Massiglia, Chief Technology Strategist, agámi Systems.

Network-Attached Storage (NAS) systems consolidate file awareness in the data storage layer, thereby providing consistent service to all application platforms. File awareness enables the storage system to take a more active part in managing and protecting data, but it also creates unique challenges. This presentation contrasts NAS with the alternative SAN-based data storage, in terms of reliability, performance, capacity scaling and administrative simplicity. Because the NAS community as a whole is very active in the field of adding value to data storage systems, the presentation also discusses replication, snapshots, data de-duplication and other advanced capabilities as they relate to NAS systems.
