NNO3:  Why Is My Network So Slow? Finding Hidden Network Performance Problems
Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Speaker:
Seth Noble, Founder/President, Data Expedition, Inc.

Before you can begin improving network performance you first have to figure out why a particular network is behaving badly. Any given data path involves the interaction of dozens, sometimes hundreds, of hardware and software components. Any one of these may have a substantial impact on the speed and reliability of applications using the network. Finding the right solution requires first identifying which factors are limiting performance. Often, the critical factors are hidden behind layers of technical and administrative barriers. This session examines some common problems that are often over looked and explains simple techniques for finding and addressing them. Included topics are hidden quality of service limitations, finding firewalls, unintended security side-effects and undesirable interactions amongst potential solutions.
