Much of the attention in data center automation has been focused on virtualization as one of the important foundation technologies for utility computing. While virtualization provides important building blocks for utility computing, a number of other capabilities are required to take data center automation to the next level. Namely, how do you automate managing application workloads to meet SLAs while maximizing resource utilization?

In the traditional silo-ed "one application per server" model, applications required resources to be provisioned for the peak demand in each silo. This in turn leads to low utilization rates and slow response to changing capacity requirements. This session will examine some of the most important requirements and capabilities for profiling applications' resource requirements, capacity planning and monitoring and managing diverse workloads as well as best practices for deploying these capabilities.
