NV4:  Cloud Computing, Virtualization and Grids: The Sum is better than the Parts
Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 10:15 am - 11:15 am

Speaker:
Ravi Subramaniam, Principal Engineer, Digital Enterprise Group, Intel.

Cloud computing, virtualization and Grid computing are the emerging, current and recent topics respectively that have or had their hype. Many vendors have jumped on the respective "bandwagon of the day" to try and differentiate their offering but this has made it difficult for one to see the larger picture. This has led to IT/End-User focusing on each of these topics and offerings separately in trying to make sense and understand how to make effective use of these technologies to efficiently address potentially conflicting needs of cost management and user productivity. Furthermore, the narrow view can lead to unrealized expectations and consequent frustrations.

This presentation revisits each of these topics and then step back to rationalize them to show how they are indeed related and synergistic and show that the real benefit lies in the confluence of these ideas/concepts and technologies. The talk will end with some suggestions on how this confluence will influence the data center of tomorrow.
