NF2:  Systems Thinking for Radically Efficient and Profitable Data Center Design
Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Speaker:
Bryan Palmintier, Research & Consulting Fellow, Rocky Mountain Institute.

Continued data center power growth creates two looming crises: technical design challenges and threats to the business viability of providing data center services. Whole-systems thinking can avert both to create optimized data centers with radically reduced energy usage that also cost less and increase profits. Drawing from RMI's experiences of both designing real-world data centers and conducting forward thinking design workshops, this presentation will explore ways to:
<> Think about data centers from a whole-systems perspective
<> Understand the business imperative of energy efficiency, and of going beyond energy efficiency
<> Save 75% or more of data center energy with off-the-shelf technologies
<> Multiply energy savings and increase profits by considering the system as a whole and the data center itself as part of a larger system
