Speaker: Joe Prisco, Senior Systems and Technology Group Engineer, IBM Corp.
In response to the focus on energy efficiency in the datacom centers, ASHRAE TC 9.9 (Mission Critical Facilities, Technology Spaces, and Electronic Equipment) is looking at widening the acceptable equipment inlet temperature and humidity as outlined in "Thermal Guidelines for Data Processing Environments." The purpose of widening the temperature and humidity ranges is to allow the use of free cooling where applicable. ASHRAE TC 9.9 has also published a book that focuses solely on energy efficient practices for the datacom centers. The presentation will cover the engineering behind the widening of the equipment psychrometrics, how to use the new recommended ranges to reduce power consumption in the datcom center and review the contents of "Best Practices in Datacom Facility Energy Efficiency."
