Speaker Biography
Rajiv Ramaswami
Vice President and General Manager, Cisco Systems, Inc.

Rajiv Ramaswami is Vice President and General Manager for Cisco's Datacenter Business Unit. He is responsible for driving Cisco's data center switching and storage business comprising of the Nexus and MDS products. Previously he served as VP/GM for Cisco's mid range Ethernet Switching and optical businesses.

Before Cisco, he was Vice President for Photonic Switching at Xros, part of the Optical group at Nortel Networks, where he set the product direction and architecture for the company and Director of the Optical Networking Group at Tellabs, where he led the development and marketing of Tellabs metro optical networking products. He also spent nine years at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, where he led a group that developed one of the earliest WDM products.

Rajiv has approximately 30 patents, and is a recipient of the IEEE W. R. Bennett and W.R.G. Baker prize paper awards for his research on optical networks, and an Outstanding Innovation award from IBM. He is a Distinguished Alumnus of IIT Madras; and coauthor of a book, Optical Networks-A Practical Perspective.

Rajiv received a bachelor's degree from IIT Madras, and master's and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley.
